Challenger Calls Peters a Liberal Enabler with a Leftist Voting Record on Key Issues
Oakland County businessman and GOP congressional candidate in Michigan’s Ninth District, Paul Welday, today blasted his Democrat opponent, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters for misleading voters by claiming to be a moderate when a detailed review of his voting record and issue stands demonstrates otherwise.
In a press release issued by Congressman Peter’s official office1, he proudly proclaims that he is a so-called “moderate” based on rankings from the publication National Journal which were released on Friday. According to the National Journal rankings2, Peters is pegged as being 57.3% liberal in his voting record.
“Once again Gary Peters is using his congressional office to promote his political agenda and pull the wool over the eyes of Ninth District voters,” said Welday. “When you look at his voting record on the issues that matter to people of Oakland County, Gary Peters is no moderate. According to the “Inside Michigan Politics” (Feb. 8, 2010) newsletter, Peters has voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi more than 96 percent of the time and that makes him a tried-and-true liberal in my book.”
